The Patch

Garden Support: Gardening support volunteers will work directly with the community at the Cavendish Community Food Hub. This community space is an inclusive and fun environment for volunteers to connect with others, enjoy peaceful gardening, and gain knowledge of urban agriculture from our PATCH Facilitators!
Workshop Assistant: Volunteers will gain hands-on experience in urban agriculture and facilitation. This is a leadership opportunity for community members to apply to become a workshop assistant!
Adult Education:
One-on-one tutoring - one hour per week (various times available): You will be matched with a learner and meet for one hour each week to work on their goals. Most learners are working on basic skills such as counting money, reading comprehension, spelling, solving one-step word problems, etc. Some learners are working on more advanced skills such as essay writing or working with fractions and percentages. We match tutors based on your comfort in teaching specific skills and your available time. There might be a wait for a learner if we do not have a learner with goals that match what you would like to teach at the times you are available. Training and teaching resources are provided, and ongoing support is available as needed.
The Learning Club: Assist learners one-on-one with their goals. Most learners are working on basic skills such as counting money, reading comprehension, spelling, writing paragraphs, basic computer skills, solving one-step word problems etc. The 3-hour Club is led by a Hutton House instructor, but volunteers allow us to provide more individualized support during the time that learners are working on their own goals. Participants end the hour listening to a chapter book we are reading. You can read the story aloud if you are comfortable with that. This class is on-going. Training is provided and the instructor is in the classroom.
Day Break
Volunteers at Day Break would help the participant take part in an activity or craft. May need to prepare participant food ( cutting and heating the food up). Some activity would be yoga, pool noodle drumming and book club.
